THE RECYCLABILITY CERTIFICATE AND LABEL IS A MEANS TO AN END, THE REAL CHANGE TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
NEUTRALITY AND INDEPENDENCE
NO
participate and have not participated:
- – Packaging companies
- – Packaging manufacturing companies.
- – Material entities.
- – Packaging component manufacturers.
in:
- – our organisation,
- – the development and implementation of the methodology,
- – evaluations,
- – reviews,
- – auditing.
- – neutrality and rigour.
RIGOROUSNESS
We follow the phases and processes actually applied to the packaging, we are faithful to reality. We carry out physical tests on packaging, as well as taking into account the theory of design for recycling, with the review of those recovered and recyclers. We have the critical review of the UNESCO Chair of Life Cycle and Climate Change ESCI-UPF, as well as the audit of the process of granting the certificate and Seal of Recyclability by SGS International Certification Services Ibérica, S.A.U.
WE TEST THE RECYCLABILITY OF THE PACKAGING
Not only do we carry out a theoretical analysis of recyclability or Design for Recycling, but we also test the packaging in the recycling process.
OUR REPORTS ARE IRREFUTABLE
Our reports, as well as including a detailed explanation, include graphic material: photographs, graphs, results and videos of the tests carried out, so that the company can see the recycling process and have irrefutable proof of the tests carried out. Awareness of the reality is the first step.
WE EXPLAIN IN AN EXHAUSTIVE WAY THE RECYCLING PROCESS OF THAT PACKAGING IN ALL ITS PHASES.
The company obtains an exhaustive knowledge of the recycling process of its packaging, so that it can fully understand how the process works, as well as being able to apply it to the design of this and other packaging.
WE EVALUATE PACKAGING OF ANY MATERIAL
according to its ACTUAL recycling stream. This also allows us to evaluate the REAL recyclability of a packaging when it also has different components of different materials.
WE EVALUATE THE RECYCLABILITY OF THE PACKAGING, OF THE MINIMUM SALES UNIT, OF THE PACKAGING PACK (PRIMARY AND SECONDARY).
Because we can assess the recyclability of packaging of any material, we can assess beyond primary packaging.
WE HAVE THE SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT AND REVIEW OF THE UNESCO CHAIR IN LIFE CYCLE AND CLIMATE CHANGE ESCI-UPF.
The methodology has been carried out with the scientific support of the UNESCO CHAIR OF LIFE CYCLE AND CLIMATE CHANGE ESCI-UPF, in addition to its critical reviews, and the review of each quantitative assessment to ensure compliance with the criteria set out in the procedures of the Recyclability Label.
THE RECYCLABILITY CERTIFICATE AND LABEL PROCESS IS AUDITED
BY SGS International Certification Services Ibérica, S. A. U audits DríadeSM to ensure compliance with the established criteria. In addition, if the company wants to include the SGS logo as an auditing entity next to the Recyclability Label, a specific audit of the concession of the Recyclability Label can be requested in order to obtain it.
WE COUNT ON THE EXTERNAL REVIEW OF THE RECYCLERS’ GUILD OF ALL TYPES OF MATERIALS.
Not only of one type of material, which ensures the rigour and neutrality of the evaluation.
WE OFFER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
The label is a means to an end, the real change to a circular economy. For this reason, apart from the percentage of recyclability, we offer options for improvement to influence the actual eco-design of the packaging and to ensure that the modifications offer a tangible solution. It is essential to know where the real problem lies in order to address it effectively.
Even if we detect improvements that do not generate interference, but would help in the recycling processes, or the consumer, we indicate it.
SIGNED EVALUATION AND RESULTS
The evaluations carried out are signed, it is not an evaluation of a result of a computer test and/or a theoretical evaluation. The tests and evaluations carried out are reviewed and signed by both DríadeSM and the Gremi de Recuperació de Catalunya. The quantitative evaluation is also signed by the UNESCO Chair of Life Cycle and Climate Change ESCI -UPF to ensure compliance with the criteria set out in the procedures of the Seal of Recyclability.
WE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT:
- THE PRODUCT CONTAINED AND THE ACTUAL RECYCLING STREAM THAT FOLLOWS THAT PACKAGING TYPOLOGY.
The same packaging, depending on the product contained in it, could have different recycling stages, or even no effective recycling at all. In our evaluations, packaging is evaluated according to its REAL recycling process.
- ALL PACKAGING COMPONENTS AND THEIR INTERACTION IN THE RECYCLING PROCESS
It is not only the sum of the potential recyclability of the individual packaging components.
- THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF THE RECYCLED MATERIAL
For a Real Circular Economy to be truly achieved.
- EACH AND EVERY STAGE OF THE RECYCLING PROCESS.
Not just one part of the process. Taking into account also the stages at which the packaging could be discarded and/or removed from the flow, as well as the existence of a collection, sorting and recycling stream, actually existing and applied in each country.
NOT ONLY THE RECYCLABILITY IS MEASURED, BUT ALSO WHETHER IT IS ACTUALLY RECYCLED.
If a packaging, or part of it, does not reach the final process of quality recycling, it will be discarded in the quantification as it is not really available material for quality recycling.
WE EVALUATE HOUSEHOLD, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL PACKAGING ACCORDING TO THEIR RECYCLING STREAM, BUT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THEM.
We are faithful to the recycling process that actually takes place according to the final holder of the packaging.
WE ASSESS THE RECYCLABILITY OF THE PACKAGING ACCORDING TO THE RECYCLING PROCESSES AND FLOWS IN EACH COUNTRY.
We are faithful to the actual recycling process in each country.
OUR METHODOLOGY CLARIFIES AND IMPROVES THE EXISTING RECYCLABILITY STANDARD AND DOES NOT EXCLUDE IT.
We assess according to the actual processes applied in each country in the recycling process of that packaging. We take Noma 13430 as a basis, clarifying the form of evaluation, based on reality and incorporating the quality of the material, indispensable for a Real Circular Economy.
